Young juniper

Hi IBC!
I recently bought a small juniper about 40cm height~
and i have no idea what style is suitable for it,all those great example of bonsai came to my mind....fomal upright,infomal upright,cascade,root over rock....and i don't know how should i style it(looks like many possibility for a young plant)



I'm try to achieve something like this....cool right?








and here is my question    :
1.Is it very hard to achieve something like that?(the trunk looks like a very huge tree and very old tree)
2.What should i do to make the trunk thicker at least looks a bit simmillar to the 1st photo?
3.Which brance would you keep or develop?
4.Maybe what others style that is more better and easier for this juniper?

It is both large and very old. It was probably dug from the wild when it ws already many. many years old, and then, many more years were put into developing it into a bonsai.

Only time -- and probably much more than any of us would have -- would give you a trunk even "similar" to this one. At the very least, your tree would have to be planted in the ground for several (5-10) years to thicken into anything that would resemble an old tree.

3.Which branch would you keep or develop?

For now, and while you have it in the ground to thicken, I'd keep all of them.

4.Maybe what others style that is more better and easier for this juniper?

Your tree is very young. You saw for yourself that it has a long way to go to resemble your model. You do have a lot of foliage down low, so I suppose you could work toward a small (shohin) bonsai (6-10 inches), which would make the trunk look a bit thicker -- but not older.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad unwelcome news.

Give it about 200 years and you could have a very similar bonsai there
