Bridal Wreath As Bonsai? Empty Bridal Wreath As Bonsai?

Post  Kiyalynn Sun May 05, 2013 6:38 pm

I have a beautiful Flowering bush in the yard, With tiny white flowers. Looking it up I believe it is Bridal Wreath, (but I could be mistaken). I was wondering if anyone has tried to Bonsai it? If so, how would you get the trunks to thicken up? I think it would make a beautiful bonsai, if its possible to bonsai, and was just wondering on any advice for it.

It's a Spiraea alba, the common name for its is the Narrowleaf meadowsweet or Bridewort, it also be Spiraea catoniensis, the May bush.

Actually, it's more likely Spiraea prunifolia - popcorn spiraea here on the gulf coast. They pretty much all go by "bridal wreath".

They make nice shohin and mame bonsai, especially some of the dwarf varieties.
