I ran across a wonderful article in a newsletter easily available to the public off the internet. An author has asked that any use of his article has first to be cleared thru him. (permission)

My question is this, if the public has access to this newsletter, and one does not do anything but mention the newsletter so that other's could freely seek this information. are we staying within the intent of the law since no part of the article is being reproduced? Only it's where abouts is being acknowledged?

Yes. You are merely pointing other people to his newsletter -- I assume with an URL. No copyright involved.

Hi Dick et al.

Let's credit the author & title of the article in the California Aiseki Kai newsletter-- "Tables for Suiseki: Adapted from a talk given at the ISAS 2012" by Peter Warren. The article is excellent. I thought of posting a link to it on the IBC thread concerning the Kazari exhibition at the Clark Center; your posting on the Stone Forum is a better choice... :-)

California Aiseki Kai newsletters are available at no charge in a digital archive to everyone. The club's request for $10 annually if you find the newsletter worthwhile gets a reminder (11 issues/year) of freshly posted newsletters. It is among the best English-language sources for reliable articles on suiseki & well worth supporting.

Thanks to all for the comments on the article. The permission thing is just because there are some copyrighted images which I got permission to use, but if they get spread like crazy it wouldn't look to good. No need to be too worried about it though, no law suits here. I reposted it on my Blog here but i recommend reading it on the aiseki kai website.

Thanks Chris for the compliments, I do try to put a bit of what little I know out there when time permits.

Cheers to all...rock on.

Peter
