I'm curious...has anyone worked with Lychee trees as bonsai material? I've got several seedlings that I was planning to develop. The leaves are quite attractive. I've looked for info online, but not found much.

Thanks.

I'm catching up on posts. I haven't had any experience with either tree, except for the lychee fruit. But, I'm impressed with your experimentation, and I would be interested in knowing the progress. I think part of the fun of this hobby/obsession, is becoming increasingly involved in the total experience of growing trees, even when one doesn't know if the tree will end up as a bonsai. Good luck, and post some pictures of the fragrant pear that didn't know it shouldn'r grow in your winters.

Suitability of Lychee Tree as Bonsai Material Empty Lychee as bonsai

I planted a seed about a year ago not thinking anything would come of it. It is now about 8-9 inches tall with 2 main branches. I started with normal potting compost but repotted early Spring using Akadama soil which it appears to love. The roots are very healthy and all and all the tree just seems to want to grow. I am growing it inside away from central heating and with full morning sunshine.
Good luck.

Hi all !

I have 2 lychee from seeds. I seriously think to make them as bonsai.
They have 2 weeks of live and I has already cut two small branches.
