Usually I do not post non-bonsai related kakejiku work on the bonsai forum, but this painting is very pretty and most of you like the old paintings and scrolls anyway...so I thought you could enjoy.

This customer is a Professor of Japanese literature, and wanted this scroll remounted. I found it is a small world, because this professor, went on an LDS (Mormon) mission at the same time as a friend of mind from my local church to the Nagoya area. I went about 4 months ahead of both of them on a mission to Fukuoka. Anyways enough with the nostalgia.
1st pic is of the artwork as it was constituted. There are pillars and ichimonji of the original scroll. Pillars are the cloth on the side, and the ichimonji is the border along the top and bottom.
2nd pic is the artwork with the cloths removed, as well as the Hada and sou urauchi. These are the backing layers of paper to the scroll. It is hard to see, but there is a slight tear on the right hand side, and the left hand side has some yogore (staining)
3rd pic is the artwork with the new layer of paper called Hada urauchi on the artwork. It is really pretty. The staining is minimized and the tear has been recovered to the best it can.

All very nice choices,
soft crisp with just a little bling.
and the rosewood gives it age.

Thanks Mr. Stonener for always commenting. Any idea as to what kind of tree you would pair with it if you could? I was hoping others would have chimed in on this as well.

Need to start working on my Sandstone tomb now...

J-san
I would not!
A tree, suiseki or even an accent plant could be seen as repetitions!
But a bronze incense burner or tea pot, even a garden lantern,
in my humble opinion would do nicely, scroll must be main subject.
Friendly advise offered as an expert on nothing...Stonener

There are many elements in this painting it is true, but they are so spaced out in the painting, and each element not dominating, that I do not think repitition is a problem. I understand your focus was seeing a teahouse/pagoda in the painting, but to me the key to the painting is a fisherman's boat. To me this clues me in to try building a summer season display...Since no one chimed here is an idea.
合歓の木 A nemu no ki which is a silk tree (Albizia julibrissin)

The pink flowers and broad fernlike leaves are going to make this the focal point of the display, even with such a large scroll. (This scroll is about 84 inches long just FYI, but because it is an excercise in imagination, you can make it any length you want. Very Happy )

Any other thoughts? I have many lonely threads...
