Re: More Carolina Bonsai Expo pics
Chris, for the first time in several years I did not have a tree on display. I have been somewhat preoccupied with work (and cycling) this year and it just didn't happen. It was nice to see Felix there.

I thought I would share some pics in addition to Jim and John. There were some amazing trees, and it was great to see everybody share their pieces.
My personal fav, a trident root over rock. I believe Nick Lenz pot.
Bald cypress
Juniper
Hinoki Cypress
Shimpaku
Japanese Maple. It's hard to tell from the picture, but amazing nebari.
Trident Maple
Bald Cypress

The beautiful pine worked by Colin Lewis at the end of his demo

I believe that Trident Root over rock isn't just a Nick Lenz pot but also a Nick Lenz tree, at least it is pictured in his collecting from the wild book.

I believe that was said at the critique. I thought I heard somebody say something about growing multiple trident on the rock to get that fused root look. I could be wrong though.

Awesome Maple!!!
Hi Austin,
Is that book different than Nick's "Bonsai from the Wild"? I looked through this one and there are no maples in it.
Thanks,
Todd

As I understood it, it is a Lenz tree, and that would include what looks to be the rock which is actually ceramic and not stone at all.

That was, once, I'm told, a Nick Lenz tree. It looks very like one of the trees illustrated in his book.
