Deep pot as the tree drinks a good deal to keep the foliage.
I chose not to thin out the foliage for the shot.

this is a really nice one,

they are great trees - small leaves, flowers, fruit sometimes - but I found they are hard to grow out of their comfort region (i guess all trees are hard to grow in the wrong climate) Fxxkin tea trees are just about the only tree i killed off 2 or 3 times in my early bonsai days but its part of learning there is a hard way........and an easy way to go about bonsai

You have a very nice and looks to be a large tree !! I too have killed my share,, not a west virginia tree,, with me.. it must be nice to have your trees grow like that...take care john

do me a favour, if the Fukien tea comes from Fujian, China, which is a zone 9 to 10, try growing a seedling outdoors from late spring through winter and see if it survives.
Something odd about China, we have a number of plants that grow well as tropicals, but come from zone 9 to 8, a little confusing.

My friend Carl, winters his serissas in a zone 7 outdoors in New Jersey, and I have seen images of Sageretia t. bare branched and covered in snow.

Yes, i'll give that a go. The ones i killed only died when they were bought inside so i may as well try one outdoors - things do better outside for me haha

Nice fukien tea , must be very old.

Marcus, My fukien tea are kept mostly outdoors but I do bring them in when temps are forecasted to be freezing or lower. Luckily, it only lasts 2-3 days here in Austin. They like high humidity so if you need to keep them indoors longer, I suggest you place them in a transparent bag. Good luck!
