Post  Max Tue May 29, 2012 9:38 pm

Hi everybody,

since quite a while I wonder about this pot.
It is for sure made by hand and it is of high quality but I don't realy know who made it?!
Is there anybody able to help me?

Thanks for any helpful answer!

Best wishes

Max, looks to like it reads China, Yixing Zisha - country and region rather than a specific potter.

Yes, I'm sorry I can't give better news. Fact is that there are some really high quality pots coming out of China with very generic chops on them. Sadly there are some fine, talented potters who we'll never know.

Yixing is the pottery center in China.

This is the pottery museum in Yixing, it is also famous for its tea pots.

This is inside the museum, these are mostly very old Chinese pots.

I was given a pot in Yixing but the chop is much more elaborate. It was commemorating the museum I guess. It came in a nice, lined box. Since my wife was along they actually gave us two pots but since we were concerned about weight coming home we didn't take it. (China Post would not take pots for shipping.)

You're supposed to put the pots in your suitcase and leave your clothes behind. lol!

I did leave a trail of clothing behind, but we were given so many gifts. I shipped 25 kilos from Yangzhou and another 25 kilos from Tianjin.
