The Bristol Bonsai Society’s show was held on Sunday August 2011. Here is a report of the day’s events and the trees …….

The venue was the usual meeting place used by the society. We had more visitors than we could have hoped for and the "overflow" car park had to be used.

First, some Shohin exhibits (of which there were many exhibits) and some Mame too........

Beautiful crisp clear exhibition photos (which is difficult), as always Very Happy
Beautiful shohin and displays too. You surely have gathered some high quality there. I envy a bit.
Nice with a shohin-clinic - haven't heard that description before. Good idea!

Best regards

Great photos! Lots of beautiful trees there.

I was curious about the swamp cypress - had asked this in the other thread but haven't received an answer - you describe it as "huge". Can you give an approximate height? 3 feet? 4 feet? Thanks!

Chris, my best guesstimate would be nearer 4ft than 3.

No one commented on the Rolls photo, so i feel obligated to do so. Smile

Like the bonsai we love and treat with tender loving care, it's easy to appreciate the same motivation with a classic car.

When an event happens, like a koi show or bonsai show, I always appreciate seeing a little extra photo coverage
in addition to the main subject.

Thanks mark!

I thought you'd appreciate that Dick. I know that car gets plenty of TLC, as I spoke with the owner.

What a great show. How many members are in this club? They have some great trees.

Those little accents give me the urge to go carve some something small.

PS Love the Rolls shot too. Looks like the same car I rented when my wife and I got married years ago. alien

Hi Rob, firstly I hope you enjoyed your recent trip to the shores of the UK ?
Thanks for your kind comments. The BBS is a very long established society being founded by Dan Barton and a few enthusiasts. It currently has 30 or so members, so it's not a huge club by any means, but the level of experience and enthusiasm is pretty high.
Glad you liked the "Roller" ; in reality it was an exceptional example, and I understand that it only ventures out on dry sunny days (which are few and far between these days in UK summers Sad )

Well I'd say that club on a per captia basis might be one of the best in the world. Very impressive.

And thanks for asking - yes I had a blast in Scotland. Made a Hole in One on the Castle Course in St Andrews and shot a really low round on the Old Course. Then I topped it off with a bonsai weekend hosted by Fiona and George! Doesn't get much better than that. bounce
