I was having a bit of fun - I manually defoliated the tree. Took about an hour. It's a usual technique to develop ramification in ficus bonsai. It could use a bit of wire but frankly I will just use clip and grow on it for expediency purposes.

Rob, thanks! Very impressive tree indeed! I love it! Makes me feel small! J

I note that the first right branch seems a bit too straight, compared to the first left one that is partly hidden behind its own secondary and tertiary growth. Perhaps it is because the photo is just two-dimensional and it looks different in life. Have you ever thought about “hiding” this branch similarly?

Hope all is well.
Branch selection is often a compromise. The main branches are so thick on this tree that they are what they are. This tree's theme is straight branches with pads emanating from the top of them.

Couldn't say better about branch selection. Smile After all, this a great tree that makes a viewer to respond emotionally. At least as far as I'm concerned.

I have only one ficus that is nowhere near the state of perfection of yours!

Someone was asking how to create aerial roots on a ficus. The best way to make them is to grow a Ficus tree in a tropical climate and to let it make a full canopy with lots of humidity.
