Pinus sylvestris seed question
I've been growing a number of different trees from seeds over the past few years and I would like to try growing some Pinus sylvestris this year, and I have two questions I'm hoping someone out there could help me with.
In the seed catalog they list a number of sub-species of sylvestris seeds; Casadeen, Auvergne, Belgium, Gevaudan, Guadarrama, Rhodopeaea, Riga, Scotland, and Turkey, all with hugely different prices, but no descriptions of the differences. I'm not sure if this has ever been discussed before, but I was wondering if there was one which is preferred for bonsai?
I have had excellent results with the JBP seed cutting technique and was also wondering if anyone has tried it with sylvestris?

Pinus sylvestris seeds
'Guadarrama' is a variety from Spain that is grown for bonsai. Never heard any of the other cultivars mentioned.

Re: Pinus sylvestris seed question
The differences are source locations. Each one has slightly different charateristics which include hardiness. When I was last buying seedlings from Mussers nursery they had descriptions listed for the different Scots they had you may want to check that out. The basis for selection descriptions was based on forestry and Christmas tree plantation use but color, needle length and straightness, winter color, hardiness and speed of growth was noted. The seed supplier you have would probably love to describe the various seeds offered--shoot them a note. Hardiness and vigor trumpted many characteristics for me. There is a "french blue" that is very nice. I know the spanish sources were noted as less hardy.
