2005 a friend brought me a small larch. It was an uninterresting tree, but he had a nice bark. We will see what will happen with this little tree.
The problem of this tree were two thick and about 15 cm long roots, going straight ahead under the trunk into the earth.

Th first foto was taken 2006.

2007 i cut back the branches which i did not need for the styling. And i loved the first branch on the right side.

In october 2007 i wired the tree the first time. And i loved the first branch on the right side.

2009 in spring i airlayerd the two long roots. I made the cuts about 2 centimeters under the trunk. Because you can not airlayer a european larch (larix decidua) direktly on the trunk. He will not make new roots.

Until spring 2010 the tree made enough roots and i could plant the tree in a smaller pot. I was not satisfied with the design of the tree but i loved the first branch on the right side.

2012 the tree was planted in a new pot. But i was not satisfied. The crown is to heavy and the movement of the tree is not really good. And again .. i loved the first branch on the right side.

2013
Something must happen with the tree. Maybe the pot is not the right. So i tryed an other one. I was not satisfied with the movement of the tree, but i loved the first branch.

In November 2013 i made a workshop with Valentin Brose and we restyled the larch. We wanted to give the tree a new movement. So we hat to split the trunk. And i loved the first branch on the right side. But we cut him and the larch looks much better now for me.

If i have trees a few years, sometimes i search for new options but i dont see it. So i need an input from someone.

What do you think.

Larix decidua, Hight 30 centimeters. Pot: Mairhofer Josef

Hi,
I like the pot in 2010 more than 2012. But the last style is the best.

Happy new year!

Hi Herbert
You have kept a great history of this tree, it looks so similar to my Welsh collected larch which I sell at Noalanders. I think the last picture is a good result the compacting of the tree works well, tree images always sit more comfortable the closer you can get the foliage to the trunk, and dare I say with this new design your beloved first branch would have sat well within the image
Great tree
