Thanks.
I haven't treated it for 4-5 years now. I've used lime sulphur with a ink wash in the past. I'm in search of something other then LS, any suggestions?

Hello again Bob. I have used a wet rot wood hardener for a number of years. I think it's known in the US as Mini wax wood hardener.

What do you do about the shine? Doesn't it build up in the pores and grain?

Hi bob, very nice pomegranate indeed! Brings to mind John Nakas big
Old pom(but it's tough to see an American pom without thinking about it for me!)
I too use Minwax wood hardener on deadwood that is potentially in danger. Does not leave any kind of shine, Its not The same Thing as deck sealant, which will leave a shine. One salient point that is very important to remember when using it is that the color of the deadwood MUST be what you want before wood hardener application. LS and ink applications applied after Minwax will simply wash off. Id treat it with one last lamp black and LS, then wood hardener. It lasts a couple years so it's way less work too!

Bob

I see you beautiful fall foliage and I'm wondering what your winter storage for that tree is, how do you maintain it through winter after leaf drop.

I know sounds nutty but I figured if the trees changing leaf color its going to enter some sort of rest period. Even in LA.

While temps do play a role in seasonAl change, the principal culprit is changing hours of light and dark exposure. Some deciduous trees will lose their leaves in areas that rarely drop below 60 over the winter, and This a light exposure issue, not a temp issue.
