Thanks much Jim. That is what I read from bonsai books and internet info.
I bought a California Juniper last week from a very respected bonsai person and he
said that the best for repotting California Junipers here in NorCal is in the fall season instead (just for California Juniper).
This made me wonder.
Thanks again Jim

If he's very respected, lives in your area and has an intimate knowledge of what makes a CA juniper happy, why wouldn't you listen to HIM first? Maybe the climate in your area makes fall a better time?

Agree, wholeheartedly with Russell.
My answer fit the info at hand.
Spring is probably better for a beginner working alone, but if you can work with an experienced grower by all means do it under his or her schedule.

Actually, Jim, that would have been my answer too - based on our (eastern US) weather and common sense.
But California's junipers and weather are waaaaaaaay outside of my comfort zone. So much depends on location and microclimates. What may be appropriate here may be the exact opposite for Wildhorse for any number of reasons that don't apply to us at all. For instance, most of the info we have about satsuki comes from Japan. They say to repot satsuki after they bloom, that's mid to late June for them. That works great when you have a cool rainy season happening at the same time, but May/June are already hot here and it just doesn't work well.
That was really my point - I'd do what the locals do.
