Post  Guest Sun Apr 17, 2011 10:49 am

Very nice Roland... The initial branch growths are good already. Just a few refinements and this tree would look great.
The top main branch going to the apex IMHO should be removed.

jun Smile

Sebastijan thanks a lot, really appreciate.
I will switch from atheism to some kind of yamadori religion for a while Smile

For the feeling of the size of the tree. The diameter of the plastic pot is 80 cm.

Nice material! ThumbsUp just wished members would use ie a coin or something as
reference to the scale of the trees ,I know size doesn,t matter (according to my girlfriend) Embarassed
but it it would be interesting to have a rough guide (as opposed to a smooth brownie: Wink ) lol!
you work it out!!!!!! Laughing

Hi Roland
Keep him healthy, this is a special find.
Did you saved some miccorhizzum fungus for the roots?
How is your spine condition on the moment??

Ybonsai, Sam, Joven and Will thanks for your nice replays.

Sunip thanks I agree it is a special one. I believe I made a good collection with lots of roots and the main part of the soil around the tree was left untouched while collecting. My Spine? Laughing I have a strong sport background and two kids so my Spine is used to worst. Embarassed

I am a beech freak with a specimen in the works and a forest planting and I thought I had something special but that beech you have there takes the taco. First my congratulations on successfully lifting the tree and getting it to survive the collection! Thats the sort of tree you wait a life time for and you pray you dont break off even one bud!

Man on the mountain thanks for your very nice reply:)

Here is one update of the Fagus. It seems that the tree is doing fine. I’m just worried about the colour of the leaves. The colour is a bit Brown (see last photo).

So if anyone has more experience with this species please let me know if this is normal for Fagus or it is some kind of a problem..I hope not...I really doo.

Perhaps too much sun exposure Question to the younger leaves.

Post  Brett Summers Sat May 07, 2011 3:48 pm

The leaves look fine to me but I am no expert I think it is just a little natural colouring. I guess it is possible that the tree is lacking in nutrients a little but I would not panic about that as even if this was so it would not be long before it gets fresh nutrients just from the new soil. So I would slowly ease into a normal fertiliser routine.
Very nice tree Good luck!

I agree with Will

I've seen my Beech leaves emerge that sort of brownish tinge, I usually keep my beeches in the shade or morning sun until the leaves harden off then I move them slowly into a half day of sun, My experience with Fagus is that once collected they are better off staying in the shade, at least for a few seasons, until the tree can cope with the full sun and the transpiration that full sun exposure causes, but I will admit I baby my Beeches, maybe too much. I've also noticed that tinting in color on my older, larger beeches and not on the younger ones.
