grasiow a new tree from thailand Grasie39[img][/img]sorry people I put this in wrong section at first but I am new to the forum . this tree is called grasiow by the locals but I dont know the scientific name and wondered if anybody did. Its only been used in thailand for bonsai for the last 2/3 yrs . the leaves look like tamarind but its not tamarind . I only grows in the north east of thailand, which is lucky for me because thats where I live . It grows in lowland areas near water and has amazing deadwood. the leaves go very small when the branch structure is formed. I get mine from some guys in town who collect yamadori for bonsai from the jungle. I,v got several and I am looking forward to this years collecting season so I can get some more . what do you think about them. regards john

John, this tree looks very nice! Please post pictures after you have styled it. The trunk is very dramatic!

grasiow a new tree from thailand Empty grasiow a new tree from thailand update

hi everybody, i,v been to europe for 3 months holiday and when i got back i,d had an email from a professor at our local university and he,s found me the scientific name of grasiow. its phyllanthus taxodiifolius beille. it would be interesting to here from anyone who uses this species. as i,v said previously its only been used for bonsai here in thailand for2/3 years so what we are tying to do is get a tree finished so we can show people what can be acheived, but if anybody out there has a finished tree maybe it would give us some inspiration . also it would be good to here from other countries to see where it grows, i know it grows in vietnam, cambodia laos s. china, but is it available in the philippines for example. i cannot stress enough how excited i am about this species the ones we find here have the most amazing deadwood and gnarled twisted trunks, i certainly think its up there with pemphis and premna as a major tree for bonsai. hope i get some replies, regards john

Hi John,
I think I've seen this specie here, but not in bonsai form.
Do you have Photo update?

hi jun, sorry i,v no more photo,s yet i,v got a bit behind with not being here for 3/4 months ,but these show the leaves pretty good and there are one or two posts i,v made already about these trees with more photos, check em out . if you have them there it would be worth your time to seek them out. they,v not been used for bonsai here till 2/3 years ago but now everybody is going crazy for them. they are almost regarded as a weed and grow near rivers because the roots chase water , you can actually stand them in trays of water. its quite a small tree in nature and looks like tamarind but they have fantastic deadwood. let me know if you have any luck. regards john
