hypertufa containers
So... seeing that huge bonsai pots and containers are simply out of my price range, and that I don't have a kiln, I was just wondering if anyone has tried using homemade hypertufa planters with bonsai in general. Any info is appreciated, thanks.

I have seen these. They tend to be a bit chunky to be strong enough. There's a dude making papercrete ones (see U-tube) but this requires precise forms. Personally I'd try using tilers lath and modified thin-set to create what you need (there is a guy on this forum who does amazing sculptural pots this way). Wood pots are fine too if the material is big.

Hypertufa is quite alkaline and may cause the soil you place in it to become alkaline, acidic loving plant might not like it.
