Here some of 337 bonsai exhibited in Tabanan (Bali) from 23. November till 3. Dezember. The last years the art of bonsai in Indonesia has achieved a lot of progress both in numbers and quality.

The exhibition trees are wonderful......!! A question: What are the colored fans on or beside the trees....some have two and others one ?

Many thanks for showing the bonsai from Tabanan....I would be proud to own any of them.

Best trees are decorated with colored flags. The jury gives a green/blue flag for trees with good potential; a red flag for high quality; a golden flag for the best tree of its category.

Peter - thanks for posting these amazing trees. It would be fun to know how long some of these were in training as bonsai. It might surprise some growers in the temperate regions.

PS Your new house looks great, I'll come visit and help you work on trees. Any golf courses nearby?

Hi Rob,

I don't know how many years these trees were in training as bonsai but I'm always surprised to see the growth they get each year under tropical conditions. In our temperate regions we have to wait 3-4 growing seasons to get the same.

If you ever come to Bali, you can stay in my house (close to Ubud) in the midst of rice fields. Here you will see the real Bali with its traditional and fascinating culture. Yes, there is a golf course in Sanur, 30 minutes from my home place.

As the series of the inauguration of the 35th Indonesian Bonsai Society, there will be a big bonsai Exhibition in Badung, Bali opened for public since October 17 to 21 October.
The International master that so far will give demonstration are:

There will be no cover charge to watch the exhibition and observe the demonstration.
