Perching on my tree Empty Perching on my tree

I have a problem with Robins sitting on my large Juniper trunk and pooping all over it. Since the trunk is fairly thick, most of the poop falls on the trunk and not the soil.

Can someone share an effective idea or two? I am thinking of loosely wrapping a wire mesh around the trunk that may cause some discomfort for birds to perch on.

Just wash the poop off, it is fertilizer. I am honored when birds grace me.

Thanks Billy,

Don't get me wrong... I don't mind birds sitting on my large trees. But once they start pooping or eating the fresh new growth, that's when I need to step in.

I am kind of a bird lover myself... but at the same time I want my Yamadori to be kept clean (without doing a daily cleaning... once in a while is fine).

Thanks,
- S

The only other way I can think of is to stick something to your trunk that will be unconfortable but it will look worse than the poop....or you can place a bird bath or food in another place far away from the bonsai. Or you can get a cat :p

Personally, I enjoy the birds that visit. We get humming birds all the time.

I like your thinking Billy. I too have birds come in and out of my trees from my condo. I just sit still and watch. Very Happy

I know what you mean. We LOVE the birds, provide baths, feed and all sorts. What I do get though is Turtle Doves (Bout the same size as an elephant with wings), they perch on the cross-beams of my display house and boy when they do their business you know wall about it. I have some very large wind-chimes hanging; this does help. trouble is it has been so windy they are tied up right now as it sound like church bells, not great when you are trying to sleep.

Try hanging cds with a piece of string...maybe the light reflection on the cd will annoy them and they will stay away.

I've seen this done. Dunno if it would annoy the birds, but all those flashing reflections sure as sure would annoy ME.

Some folks swear by those rubber owls that can perch on a stand, and a rubber snake or two on the table. Garden stores sell both.

Personally, however, I welcome birds to my trees -- even the littlest ones (trees). When my watering system is one I often have a dozen sparrows, titmouses, and warblers fluffing their feathers in the spray.

Same problem here, I had to move most of my trees under a big tree at the beginning of summer, sun was just a killer. Then came a record rainfall season, so some smaller trees had to stay under the big tree or get rained out of their pots!

We feed the birds, love having them around, but since that tree sheltering my bonsai is the staging area when they wait for food, everything is covered with bird doo.....

Hose it off every now & again and leave well enough alone Very Happy

I had a hummingbird come to my bougainvillea religiously all last summer, what fun. Of course the flowers didn't last long after he was through with them but still.....
