Very interesting material. It isn't H. rosa-sinensis. I think it's Malvaviscus arboreus var. drummondii, or possibly some other variety. Jose Luis?

Russell,

You are right! Nice tree, by the way...

These are also used as bonsai in Taiwan, mainly for small trees.

Warm regards,

Jose Luis

The deer defoliate my Hibiscus on a regular basis.
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. Dscf2511
The Hibiscus is out of the picture to the right, she is now having dessert.
The photo is through my computer room window screen, that is the reason it is fuzzy.

Thank all of you,
Russell you're right. Because this tree look very much like H. rosa-sinensis but do not know their names so I think that.

Don't worry, I understand completely.

Thanks for the confirmation Jose Luis. I have to say that I'm a little dumbstruck. I had my suspicions, but this plant is a WEED here along the Gulf Coast. I just can't believe what I'm seeing. The only thing I thought it was good for was attracting and feeding hummingbirds!

InvinH, do you have pictures of others?

No, other examples. I'd love to see more. Is this common material for bonsai in S. E. Asia?

you know Bill,

I collected a cotton wood two years ago that had been nibbled so often by deer that it had ramified, I'm growing it out for a shohin, Deer are natures bonsai masters.
