Ulmus pumila (owner Roman Nieslanik) - first styling 2012
Hi all
Today I worked with a client on his Ulmus. The tree is very beautiful and distinctive bark. Gentle movement of the trunk. I think this can be a very interesting tree.

Thanks, Pavel! Excellent tree is coming out! I note you left the stump to the right of the base of the tree. Is it for any specific purpose?
Cheers,
Andrei

Hi Pavel,
Very nice styling and gorgeous bark.
How much experience do you have with pumila? I have several old ones I am developing but people keep warning be about branch dieback. Do you have any comments or advice about branch dieback on siberian elm over time?
Thank you.

Hi a2khalid
Thank you for nice compliments.
I worked with a few trees U.pumila, with us and grow well in the garden. I've never heard of death branches. I think it's pretty resistant plant.

Very nice job Pavel! Great bark and movement. But I too am wondering about that stump...leaving it there now for the health of the tree?

Ulmus pumila...aka Siberian elm.
Pavel,
Can elaborate on your experience with this species of elm? How you feed, repotting frequency etc...
Here in the US this species is literally everywhere and can often be found with excellent bark and nice trunks. They have a reputation for losing branches . I've seen other elm species do this when they have not been fed heavily or repotted often enough. Maybe this is the reason.
To the forum:
Why is it that almost every other variety of elm is good for bonsai EXCEPT siberian elm (U. Pumila)? To name a few common names that are "suitablefor bonsai: American elm, the MANY varieties of chinese elm, florida elm, winged elm cedar elm, english elm...
Its tough to believe that this one type of elm is crap when the rest are good.

Hi Neil
Thank you for nice coments.
I use the same substrate as the mix of other trees. He does not like dry substrate. Hold still slightly moist. A lot of organic fertilizer to the substrate. Also, spray the leaves. I really think it is very easy tree, and grows a lot of very good work with it.
