In regards to the very white deciduous trees at 1:07 and 2:39 in your latest video- how are they made that white? and how long does that white affect last?

Originally trees of exceptional variety and great age would show this whitened bark naturally (some acer palmatum species and the white beech - fagus crenata). These days the whitening comes from a treatment with watered down lime sulphur when the tree is out of leaf. This can be sprayed or brushed and is a pest treatment as well as whitening technique. to use LS just to kill bugs 30:1 is the dilution but 10 or 15:1 makes the bark nice and white too. One treatment lasts at least a year.

Personally i love the contrast between new bright spring leaf growth and the white bark so i treat my red leaved maple and of course the white beech. I've also seen trident maples look ancient with the same treatment, and the bonus is pest control & fungus control.

The white tree at 1:07 looks like it might be a star magnolia, which has white bark without any treatment.

The Japanese wear masks in public when they have a cold so they don't spread germs to others. Yes, they are that considerate.

how quickly does the green colour return to the trees after the cold weather?

from the back there are some really good areas of deadwood, do think the big piece of dead wood at the front will be improved with some carving to make some curves and movement?, or is it a customers tree?

In Shizuoka, where Taisho-en is located, normally the Shimpakus are green at the end of March.

It is a tree from the nursery, and the dead wood it is natural. When something it is natural, it is better to keep it.

Nice job rearragning the foliage. When you wired the branches badly damaged from the old wire digging in, did you wire in the same clockwise pattern or did you reverse the angle of the wire? It seems some of that wire really dug in and might have caused some damage upon removal.

Depends where I'm going to move the branch.
If I try not to wire up the scar. That's all.
