Re: Shohin forest of cotoneaster seed
Fascinating fall color!
Aren't the trees potted too close one to another?
There is no empty space among them....

I really like this. A dense thicket on top of a grassy hill. That red is amazing!

I'm doing something similar with a complete sprig of privet berries I planted around this time last year, and I've seen pictures of Japanese Black Pine seedlings that were planted like this.
Yes, they are very close to each other, and part of the fun is to see whether they fuse together eventually, or stronger trees dominate and weaker ones die out.

Wow, I like the colors!
I would plant them even closer to see if fusion works faster, but I dont know if your intention is in this way?
Anyway, nice work...

Thanks to all friends. The trees were left to grow naturally as the seeds sown. There are (if I remember right) 24 or 25 plants, I hope that in future we can be welded together to form a unique strain (nebari). The composition is still young (2009), to be aged a lot.

Neat, I really like it and the fall color is beautiful. Did you plant the seeds randomly (just dump them in the pot and cover with soil), or did you arrange them in a specific pattern with varying distances between?
Do you know what variety of cotoneaster the seeds are from?

In woodsman's (i.e one who cuts his own firewood) terms we might call something like that a 'stand.' Whatever name it deserves it surely deserves praise. Threads like these are why I still enjoy this forum as this has had the ability to inspire me to try something similar next year. Though I may use cuttings.

Thank you friends. The seeds are sown at random, a little open between them. The variety of trees is "cotoneaster horrizzontalis" in the autumn leaves fall. For a growth rate better done with cuttings or young plants. I like to create compositions of natural bonsai, what you see in nature.

Brilliant
Brilliant Daniel , inspiration . Have also started cotoneaster group but not so many, this has really given me ideas though. Advantage of such projects being that when one is putting on a fair few years oneself it may be possible to do something so good in a shortish time. Thanks for showing it.

i really like this... and very inspirational, too.
and like "the most interesting man in the world" said,
"a stand" is the perfect term for this sort of planting.

I really like this approach to making a forest, Daniel. Great result.-Daniel- wrote:Hello friends, these photos in the progression of Shohin forest, left to grow like wild forest, the work has been made only to round the tip pruning high. Enjoy the colors of autumn.
