Hello Jasper. A very fine Taxus from Marc, as usual. Have you a before picture?

I'm going to have to give a bit of criticism but I feel the tree looks a bit too un-natural. You can actually see that this was man made. May just need a few years but from my point of view the carving look's too much like its been carved. Sorry if I'm coming across as negative but that's just what I see. Possibly burning the scar a bit with give it more texture and grit that you'd expect to see out in nature.

Well, to me it is great inspiration. I like it, when an expert makes the best out of common material. And I would really like to see photos of the back and sides too - for that same reason.

BTW: I do like the fact that this forum allows common material for discussion and appreciation. Not all great bonsai started as yamadori, though most yamadori are great ;-)

Hello Tarmanel. I understand where you are coming from. Marc's carving in my opinion is unique and his signature. He is a great carver but is less realistic, more surreal.

Agree on the carving. And the white is too white and he black too black. Looks like makeup.

That said, it is a nicely shaped tree. Maybe the shari will tone down with age.
