One again, not important enough to be in the Bonsai section.

Much use of twist ties on a small leaf Fukien tea. This tree will be allowed to develop a trunk slowly.
Feel free to comment yay or nay.

And what are those strings (or wires) doing? There doesn't seem to be enough tension on them to be having any effect at all.

I think I'd plop this back in the ground and let it find itself.

Those twist ties will have cut and damaged the bark long before the branches have set. Why aren't you using wire?

Khaimraj,

This should be posted on the "story of my Tree" in the bonsai section. I reminded me of my childhood memory....when my kite got entangled with my neighbors mango tree. hehehe.

Jim,Will,

the tropics, fast grow, no wire cuts.

I allow a 6 inch [ 15 cm ] length and it sets the bend. Then I go again.

Jim queries - "There doesn't seem to be enough tension on them to be having any effect at all."

May I go a little eastern --- motion without movement.

But seriously, there is a lot of tension Jim.
Khaimraj [ thanks from the bottom of my heart, you two have made my day.]

Oh Jun,

I was laughing so much at an expected set of responses, that I almost forgot to thank you for looking.

I don't think folk from the Subtropics and Warm Temperates can appreciate what I say about how fast change can come to a finished design, because of fast growth. And Fukien tea really grows, which is why I like them for full canopies.

Yes, I lost a few of my kites in trees. Memories.

Jim, Will,

see here - https://ibonsaiclub.forumotion.com/t5047-story-of-our-trees

scroll down to my entry.

Same technique, more advanced stage. There is even a wire at the base of the larger tree.

Thanks John,

I have been preparing a little something for you, but I need a few more weeks. It's just a little something - okay. You were the one with the Chinese elms - correct ?
I hope I haven't mixed you up with another member.

scratch First reactions - confused. What is your plan for the tree. Or would you rather say it is too early to have a plan Smile

I am fully with Jim on the dunking the tree in the ground part and wait for the trunk to develop before giving the tree a bonsai pot.

Ravi,

I have one of this batch of small leaf fukien teas in the ground. I want to see how large a trunk you can get, but I also have a few in 1 gal. pots to see how dense these trees get. I am more interested in the full canopy of a tree seen say 3 times it's height's length from the eyes, than the trees seen in the distances with branches like an eagles claw talons skyward with leaves over the talons.[ hope that got across correctly.]

Take a look at the one's I left under Jun's story trees topic in the Bonsai Forum, link left a little earlier in my responses. Those trees are hairy but done the same way, just that they are the large and medium leaf types.
Thanks for looking.

if this technique works with your tree. I'll be glad to adopt it...though I also use guy wires most of the time, but with a very thin wire, some times the my trees looks like a circus tent with all the pegs and wires.

jun Smile

Jun,

it's a simple technique that takes advantage of the tree's properties. You pull lower than you need, let the branch extend to 6 inches [ 15 cm ] remove wire, and it returns to where I want it. Then I just clip and go again. I had so many fukien teas planted on the lawn, by the birds, I now mow them as grass. So I had a lot of victims to work on, and no fear of accidentally killing them.
[ shh- they are now springing up in the neighbours' yards up to 1 mile away - creating potential pest yamadori --------- " oh what is this ugly thing in my Murraya p. hedge ---- no problem madam, I can dig it out for you and take it away " - chuckle --- done this already.]

I also have hedges in the large leaf type.

They love my soil mix and extend rapidly. I am hoping to specialise in the small leaf type, since they are so beautiful.

Aside - I just a private message from Ravi, seems that the pot above might be seen as a bonsai pot. It is a 1 gallon UV resistant black pot for growing on. Been one year and the tree consume 3 inches of compost, plus fertilizer, so it sank down into the pot.

After watching your work, I believe I have to put more effort / attitude into my trunks. Break out the------------TRUNK BENDERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
Thanks.
Khaimraj

Repotting day [ 2 weeks of it ] starts Jan.2nd 2011. I am ready!!!!!!
