Nice Berberis, but in my opinion the cascading branch is way to straight for a convincing cascade.
I get the feeling like the tree is forced to be a cascade.

Nice docu.though.

Kind regards

Hi Peter, the straight branch is for now a weak part in the tree.
But in the next couple off years this part you won't see anymore, when the leafs on this tree are more matured.
I will show you next year, and than you know what i mean.

Here a photo from the berberis in his new pot,and the back off the tree is now the new chosen front Very Happy
I discus this tree with Teunis Jan klein, and he advised me to nominate the back as the new front.
And the pot also comes from Deshima bonsai, the bonsai-shop from Teunis Jan ThumbsUp
In the top off the tree I want more growth and in the lower part there must grow some new branches to get a better end-result Smile
I hope you like it so far Cool

I like the repeating theme of the rocks, echoing the back part of the 'trunk' - really appeals to the eye cyclops

Hi Ed,
great job! I like it very much. Especially now, after I dug 1 berberis myself.
Where did you get this tree? What is your experience with wiring it, after what time branches keep their new shape?
Regards,
Martin

I have just seen this thread! Amazing tree!
Needless to repeat the flattering comments of previous posters.

I do love this species but I find it to be very "stubborn" as far as flexibility of branches is concerned... I have given a little berberis a try in the past and I had wired some branches to the desirable position for whole 7 months or so and as soon as wires were cut off the branches returned to their previous upright position/direction Crying or Very sad

I think you can wire the branches to set up the overall design, but then it's preferable to let grow and clip, if only because of the tiny thorns silent

Yes, indeed Alain! I tend to believe that clip and grow must be the only method to give movement to berberis branches.
