Nice trees. You need to open up a bonsai pot business - India needs better bonsai pots.

we may not be having great pots but these pots are very healthy and the bonsai pots are so costly we feel that such pots are appropriate or masterpieces. Its also true that we are more concerned with the quality of our trees than just displaying them with good pots for just beauty. We will defenitely find good pots but our primary concern is how people from all over the world feel about Indian bonsai.
All sorts of comments are welcome.
thank you

I'm afraid I have to agree with Rob. In this country, or just about anywhere I know of, even the smallest local club show does not admit trees in nursery pots, with occasional exceptions for group plantings. Even plastic bonsai pots are preferable. Yes, the quality of the tree is important, but by definition, a bonsai is not just a tree, it is a tree in a harmonizing pot.
India has a superlatively rich art history. If imported pots are too expensive, surely you can find an Indian potter who can make bonsai pots that complement Indian culture & tropical trees. They don't even have to be frost-proof.
If you went to a museum, or even a local art show (at least in the US), you would probably not see many naked canvases. You would see mostly pictures in frames. Prints & watercolors would at least be matted. Same idea.
I probably should not be lecturing someone in a country I have never even been in, but this is the view from here.

I may be well off the mark here, but I am getting the impression that bonsai is relatively speaking in its infancy in India. That being so, surely some allowance must be made at shows for lack of availability of decent material at affordable prices, and that would most certainly include pots. Yes, the long-term aim should be for a beautiful tree in a beautiful and harmonious container. But that may need some working towards and gm.it.seacom is right in stating that to get the public interest up, the trees take the centre stage just now. Once the hobby/art takes off the stakes can be raised regarding pots. It would be a shame if otherwise wonderful trees are overlooked for shows on the basis of an "inferior" pot. And if the reason for a lack of quality pots is financial, then there is a danger that such an approach would create an elitism based on who can afford the best pots rather than who has the best trees. We're lucky in the UK not just that we have so many excellent potters but also that their pots are reasonably priced in the great scale of things. I hope India gets there too because I think we are all impressed with the general quality of the trees.

gm.it.seacom (please tell us your proper name) I wish you well with trying to raise interest in Indian bonsai. Am I right in thinking you posted pictures last year from a show? It is the same one you are getting prepared for now? If so, I really love to see the pictures of it.

Are they many bonsaist in India? If so, Iris and Rob bring up a very good point. There is an opportunity to become the leading local supplier of bonsai related materials. Pots included.

It's just a thought.

By the way, I think your collection has come a long way in a short time. They look very good.

All the best,

I agree with Fiona and Rob. I actually appreciate the uniformity of the pots, imo (in my opinion) it puts the emphasis on the tree, not the container. Like I said though, I agree with Rob, you could definitely start your own bonsai pottery business and probably do well. You could find a great local potter (don't know the professional name) and perhaps go into a partnership.

Again, I like those trees you have shown us, keep it up!

my full name is gourab majumdar.thank you every one for sharing your views.Thank you Fiona as i think you have understood me well.
Everyone has to understand that bonsai in india is very new and the pot culture is not profound here. Can u believe that there is only one person who produces bonsai pots in the whole of india. And its very difficult to procure those pots.
About the show maam u were right.I posted those pics from the show and i will defenitely upload all the pics this time also.
I am a fast learner and will defenitely try to match up to display quality by providing proper pots. But i fell very bad when i find people donot love the trees only because of the fact that the pots is ordinary.
We truly love this art form.
