Melting Snows or Winters' End

Last year, I bought the world's ugliest accent pot from Dale. I've struggled to think of something suitable to put in it, despite a few uncouth suggestions from the Burrs crew.

Anyway, on our way back from Willowbog last week, Tony decided he wanted buy a few Snowdrops and I got a handful as well. Matt had brought his Christmas present (A stunning Japanese antique pot book) along to show me a pot with a similar glaze to mine. Then came the Eureka moment!

The pot in Matt's book was named "Remaining Snow", so I kind of borrowed that theme. What do you think? (Apart from the dodgy photography).

Which is the best image/side? And which name do you prefer?

Lovely combination Steve, well matched. The front is usually determined by the tree. If the trees movement is to the right, then the accent should be on the right, with the accent plant leaning to the left. And vice versa. Name is cool as well.

Did anyone else catch the piece on Radio 4 about Snowdrop fanciers having the latest version of "Tulip mania" Apparently Galanthophiles pay hundreds of pounds for a single rare bulb! Crazy hobbyists!

I love that, they go so well together. That dripping effect on the pot is excellent. Glad you got a photo as that lovely combination will soon be no more.

Will, these pics were taken immediately after planting. Since then, all three stems have stood bolt upright. So much for directionality!
I originally wanted to put 5 bulbs in the pot, but three was the limit. On reflection, I think 5 would have been too many.

Thanks for all your kind comments. I take a great deal of encouragement from them. Sandra, on the other hand, is hacked off that none of her accents are ready to display yet!

Lee, I'm glad I'm not the only one who can see the beauty within this pot. Dale and I originally christened it the 'Snot Pot'. I think my new title fits it much better. (Thanks for the idea, Matt).

Steve, Did you pick a name yet.............I like winters end as you can get melting snow anytime...during late fall to spring.......... but snow drops are a sign of winters end and that spring is close.

Wow! TWO pots in England now!!

I like the second pic the best; the one with the lowest drop. On that side of the pot I see a kneeling angel or nymph type creature, with wings (or something); a Winter spirit off sorts. I like to find symbols and imagery in all sorts of things. That's a great pot and planting. Regards, Todd

Fantastic to see this combination realised! Even having been (a small) part of the idea process, I didn't imagine the combination would look as great as it does.

This will make a spectacular accent for a winter show.

I love Dale's pot.

My thought for a name would have been "Eternal Snow" or "Immortal Snow" or you could always go for "Crouching Snowball, Hidden Accent

Such a nice combination & an elegant reference. I like "Winter's End," too, and would stick with that title if the accent should have a poetic naming.

Though not for a title, you might consider the additional presence of tears in the combination of pot & plant with the drippy pot. "Sleeve wet with tears" is a common poetic allusion to sorrow arising from love and separation. "This world of tears" is a Buddhist allusion to our state of living which is created by desire and causes suffering. Many of the poems in the Hyakunin Isshu (Hundred Songs by a Hundred Poets) refer to tears-- sometimes obliquely.

Whether commenting on falling snow, drops of rain, waves upon the shore et al. , a "sleeve wet with tears" is usually felt-- a longing that cannot be stilled.
