This and That and then some
Morning Guys and Gals,
Special Morning and Hi to Kevin!!
well if all goes well I should be back here by September / October.
The area around Toco is more rainy than San Fernando and nothing will be possible until after Christmas.
Car died 2 weeks ago, I had to re-build the engine, and I mean the mechanic and I rebuilt it,
Back up to speed and the last of the cocoa / coffee for the year has been planted.
New seedlings for next year and the next section of the land.
Noted Jim passed away, sad to see more of IBC gone, will honestly miss the guy. Hope is he Bonsaing
in Heaven. Remember I am Roman Catholic, and did sign up for the interview to become a Brother,
back in my last year of school.
The urge to paint the church ceilings was however stronger.
Well I tried the compost tea, discovered it is meant for more or less - finished - trees.
Started losing branches on an Elm and read at AUSbonsai, that I would need urine to reach the 12N required by
most trees.
So I will try again next year.
Putting back in the peatmoss, as the compost burns out in under two months, and returning the 1/3 lawn fertiliser
especially for my pines. Read at AUSbonsai that the helpful mycorizae [ spelling ? ] prefers a low P, and that
is what the Lawn Fertiliser was giving.
So I kinda shot myself in the foot.
Just finished tipping a few trees to get the loose 5 mm inorganic out for re-mixing with compost.
Learnt that Toco is very similar to high mountain land, mostly decomposing mountain stone, not sure what it is
but, nothing I collected - seedlings - survived.
Whereas if I go deep south to the clay soils, even the most difficult trees with little root will survive, and these
are past the seedling stage.
To the gentle reader - please note if I collect, it is from our drains near the roadside.
I am not a great believer in taking stuff from the Native/Virgin/ Secondary forests/jungles.
Since I went all solar, I temporarily lost my ability to fire my small [ 6 x 6 x 6 " - 15 x 15 x 15 cm internal space ] Kiln.
A friend is working on putting that back as the power used for heat is very high, and I have not time presently to go
to solar firing.
[Nor is Trinidad a sunny island - clouds yes and lots of breeze, but no concentrated hours of sun, more like minutes or an
hour here and there. Rain is dropping us back to the high 80's deg F [ under 30 deg.C ] ]
------------ BUT I did find some new clays to make pots.
Lots of physical work.
Oh got a great surprise a tamarind airlayer has taken off like a shot. Will show as time allows.
All for now.
Laters.

it is always great to hear about your trinidadian exploits, although it seems that life has thrown you a few hardships, between the car and the kiln, etc, but good on ya for going all solar !!!
i also hope your nephew is doing well and continuing with his artistic endeavors as well !
be well and we hope to hear from you again sooner than later as time and electricity allow

Nonsense. Neither of you - Nellie or Kevin - could possibly be old enough to have grandkids, you being such young things.
