Crepe myrtle, 3 years from a cutting.

I thought I would post a few pictures of one of my crepe myrtles. It was grown from a large cutting and all of the primary branches are from scratch.

Agree w/ Kevin, but what is that gunk smeared over the trunks on the front view.  Of all trees in the world crape myrtle needs cut paste the least.  You should be using a Dremel and carefully incorporating the scar into the tree's design.

It's a non toxic sealant called mod podge mixed with gray paint. I agree with you that crepe myrtles don't usually need a wound sealant but when I did my original carving, the trunk on the right was only attached by a about 1/8 of an inch of sap wood. The sealant was just an attempt to prevent die back, and it has actually kept the dead wood very hard in the areas that I painted. It was just an experiment, and I'll probably take it off with the sanding weed from dremel soon

Thanks, it should be a fun tree to grow out and refine.

Even though I like unorthodox trees, that back side isn't very appealing to me.
