Re: Zombi Mugo video
thanks vance - good to know that this is a good time of year for work.
videos are blocked here at work, so forgive me if this is mentioned in the last one you posted, but:
in your zone (maybe 4/5 i believe ?), do you winter yours outside or fully protected (garage, shed, etc) ?
i am guessing that due to their natural habitat, that they might do OK outside... ?

Hi Vance,
We've had our differences on these forums before, but that aside I just wanted to compliment you on that last tree you posted the video of. I think it is absolutely lovely! A bit quirky and different, but a fine example of how these types of trees can be thoroughly refreshing. Cookie cutter bonsai be damned! Good job.
Cheers,
Andrew

If you have access to a pond basket or colander I would suggest putting the tree in one of those. It will help develop new roots all over the tree as opposed to in just a couple of places where the tree has taken off while leaving the rest languishing in the dirt. As to when to Pot. I don't start the potting process until after the summer Solstice and then I can and do, do it up until the beginning of November. If you had to do it at the wrong time you should be alright just keep the tree sheltered and don't let it get too wet. Even in a colander it is possible to over water. I live in zone 5-6 though we do get temperatures down into the sub zeros. Mugo is considered hardy to zone 4. I keep all of my Mugos and Scots on the ground grouped together and sheltered by mulch and sometimes shade cloth.

thanks vance... i ended up just cleaning out the duff, weeds, etc... along with the removal (leaving stubs) of a few branches that were obviously weak, dead or unnecessary... i then planted it in garden until next season. (i do not have a colander or pond basket big enough to accommodate it)
