Hi i have just bought my first bonsai tree. Need some help. I purchased my bonsai a month ago. Please assist me with how to care for it. At the moment i am just watering it every morning and feeding it every 2nd week. Its a Serissa Foetida White. When i purchased it shows that it is a two year old. No flowers as yet and we in the peak of summer. I have put i tray with water as it is abit on the humid side here.

Please assist me on how i can maintain my bonsai. Attached picture of it. Advice on what i can do to still keep it growing. The leaves were more on the yellow side but now getting abit more greener but no flowers as yet. When should i start pruning / clipping it.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Regards
Mak

Mak,

if it is a bit on the humid side, why do yo need a tray with water ?

This serissa handles full sun on my side [ tropics ] so you may wish to see how much light it really needs. Try some morning or dappled sun.

Don't over water.

Get it to grow many new shoots and then when you show do a photo front on, showing above does not really help.

Less on the pruning and more about learning to grow/health of the shrub.

Can you get 3 to 5 more pre-bonsai to keep, that way you will not love this serissa to death.

Welcome!! to the IBC.

Hi Khaimraj and all

Sorry it is not humid. Its dry sun thus put a tray of water underneith without letting the pot touch the water.

At the moment the pot sits in the patio. Its on a table in the centre but does not get direct sun in the centre. Every morning when i water i shift the pot on the side of the table where there is some sun that comes in the morning. Should i leave it in the centre where it is not getting direct sun or should i leave it on the side (edge) of the table where the sun comes in the morning.

Congratulations that your Serissa is still alive. Many new bonsaiests manage to kill this species within the first few weeks.

Your little tree will enjoy full sun -- as much as it is possible to give it. Water it only when necessary. If the soil is at all moist, you don't need to add any more. I would not worry about trimming or shaping the tree for a while. Let it become happy in its new environment.

Here is some info on Serissa as a bonsai: http://www.bonsai-bci.com/files/Serissa.pdf
