last year i saw this taxus in my neighbours garden.. it had some nice shari and asked him if he ever would get rid of it, to give me a shout..

5 minutes later, he grabbed his shovel and dug out the tree in a rather ruthless manner..

since it had lost quite some roots during this, i decided to prune most of the tree

so i just left it outside untill this spring..

after which i pruned it some more to promote growth in more needed places..

to finally arrive at the point where i restyled it into the what i had in mind for this one and also "repotted" it into a better soil mix of akadama and bims, which was needed, since it had some big larva in the root mass

this is how it looked a week ago.. the tree is healthy and nicely growing.. it will now remain like this untill next year, where i will start styling the branches and refine the deadwood. planning for this tree in the end is to keep a small life line and make it almost 95% deadwood..

Keep working on it, tho it would be nice if there were more movement in the trunk. Be careful not to enlarge the shari which is under the only remaining branch; you might mess with the flow of nutrients to that branch.

yeah, i understand.. on the other side there is some more shari, which was created by the pruning last year.. i could just peel off the bark at some places.. so the following years i will keep an eye on this, and by than, the lifeline of the branch will have swollen enough to allow me to go nicely around it..

what are those small plastic baskets at the base of the tree? do they contain fertilisers?

this is a picture of later on
taxus bacatta IMG_0679

the branch has now been bend so that the front of the tree is now this side (don't have a pic of the new composition yet) with the branch situated like it is in the first picture

also by now i have cut off that aerial root which was already 90% shari and i've made it into a small swirling jin..
