Re: help me pls ?
I suggest you try out ficus. It is a hardy plant, grows moderately fast for impatient newbies (like myself), and it's available everywhere. You can buy it at any local plant shops or you can collect them from your own backyard. Good luck!

Try a search for "Philippines". You should find others from the Philippines who are members and have ask questions. You can then contact them (PM) and explore the various species of trees they have. Good luck.

Murraya paniculata - Kamuning
Casuarina e.- agoho
Triphasia trifolia- lemonsito
Vitex negundo- Lagundi

Stick with stronger species if you are new to bonsai. Blue bell, ficus, tamarind, kamuning bilog, Ixora are among the good ones for starters.

Jun if you live in Alaska why does your profile say you are in the Philippines? I believe there is a major difference between the two. Would help us if your profile truly reflected where you are.

The best? You mean in terms of?
I'm new to bonsai as well. I started with ficus and many bougainvillea varieties because they are easy to find.
I just cant recommend bougainvillea for starter though because the wood rots faster than many other species and also the branch, its hard to wire without snapping or damaging the bark.

Jason,
study - grow and clip - Lingnan. On fast growing trees, it makes life easy.
Ask Sam of Hawaii how to control the rotting of the Bougainvillea wood.
He actually explained how to,over in Bonsai Discussion.

I'm really interested in clip and grow lingnan but aside from the name "clip and grow" (which I've been using in my bougies) I don't know anything more about the technique. Been looking for a good study reference for quite some time now with no luck. Maybe you can point me to some good books or online resources?
Thanks

Jason,
the books you are looking for -
[1] Man Lung Artistic pot plants - Wu Yee Sun - Used to be available for a donation of $20.00 US from the-
Hong Kong Baptiste college
224, Waterloo Rd.,Kowloon
Hong Kong
tel - K-374161
My copy is from 1974 so you may wish to get a new telephone number for the H.K.Baptiste College
[2] Books by Hu Yunhua - for basic techniques - check Amazon
[3] Get a good picture book on Chinese painting before the 1700's.
If this is available it is excellent - Milli Anni di Pittura Cinese
Yes, I may buy something in Italian, like food and train tickets - chuckle.
[4] There are also numerous books in Chinese, but I can only look at the pretty pictures, so you might ask some of the members from the Philippines, look in the Stone section of IBC, some are pure Chinese and can help out.
Additionally check youtube - under Chinese Bonsai.
