New Azalea I want to use for Bonsai - What do you think?

I bought this azalea the other day and would like to use it as a Bonsai. I'm new to the hobby, so bear with me. Its 21 inches tall (from the pot) and 42 inches at its widest point. It was so full of trash and thick when I got it, you couldn't see through it. I cleaned and pruned. It was about to be thrown out by the nursery, as a matter of fact, it was way back in the woods with all of the old stuff. They charged me $6.50 for it. Its a deep pink with the smallest leaves of any they have. I would like some HONEST feedback of what ya'll think. Did I waste $6.50? Or is there some potential? I'm new to the hobby and would like some feedback. I attached a picture, hope it stays.
