What's the preferred way of photo-sharing on this site?

Hi, am a newb here and was hoping for what the most-common protocol is for photo-sharing? I can see 'insert image' and 'host image', are there differences in how they're displayed? Is one more common/easier for people? I use imgur to host my pictures for posting on reddit's bonsai sub-reddit, and bonsainut I upload my images directly (am neovngr and SU2, respectively, on those boards, if anyone posts there )

The only way I have been able to keep track of anything that happens on this site is by going to the "View threads since your last visit" at the top of the entry page. I have been trying to update my address so that I receive notifications of new activity, but nothing happens. Whoever is running/overseeing the site is asleep at the proverbial switch I guess?

Under the "Profile" tab there is a section called "Topics being watched" and there you see the activity on all topics that you either started or posted a comment to.

Yeah this site always came up on my internet searches so finally joined (ausbonsai as well), both were like time-warps to old boards lol, but the person quoted below seems to be on-point (it's at least the best I could find myself as well them)

Can you see the text at the bottom right of the thread that says "Watch this topic for replies"?   It is undet the latest post on a thread and is your "quick link".

When you see a topic that interests you, click on this and the system should send you an email to tell you when someone has added a new comment.

Also, as you've already found, the Profile tab allows for many things to happen. Go into Preferences and you can set things up in advance. Also look at Topics watched as Vitusus has suggested, and Notifications.

The photo problem is nuts though, have no idea how to get around it...I tried posting pics in my BC thread yesterday and if I hosted them here, they'd post oriented sideways, if I used the 'insert image' function (just like inserting a link, which does work) then there'd just be blank lines in my post where the pics should've been...had to just post off-site picture url's and hope people would check them / reply with suggestions for me!

Yeah I've read the document and am not using a phone just my laptop w/ a regular browser (firefox), for instance the following is a valid photo url:

If I take that url and use the 'insert image' button above my text-entry window where i'm currently typing, this is what shows:



^am guessing it's not just my screen but that there's no image ^ here ^, despite being visible to me in my text-entry window right now...
(I'm *not* adding any values into the optional height/width boxes, just pasting the url and pressing 'insert')

That leaves me with hosting it here, however when I try that it appears sideways (here's what happens when I try to host that same image here:



Am guessing ^that is showing as horizontal?

I don't know what else to do, I mean I want to make a thread that relies upon that image that I put in this post but will be doing it on ausbonsai instead of here because I can't post a pic right and can't find any other ways to try, and can't figure-out why *either* of the 2 available methods are failing (let alone both of them..)

Ok will be posting my thread here haha, have no idea why the last couple times it shows-up sideways (my last several posts will show a sideways picture) as I'm using the same camera, same method of submission etc so have no clue what's causing the flipped ones...have seen others flipped horizontally as well, would be good to know what the cause is because if hyperlinking images doesn't work and I've gotta upload each photo individually I'd really rather not be doing Previews before learning whether a particular image (and thus, post or thread) is something I can do on this site :/
