Some Serissa Empty Some Serissa

Post  John Lee Wed Jan 02, 2013 4:07 am

Just wanted to show off a few of my serissa. It is winter, but it they are still blooming like crazy. Just a note all of these have seen temps in the upper 20's/low 30's, so they can handle lower temps.

I do have one more variety, don't know the name, but it has varigated foliage and purple flowers. It isn't styled yet, just a clump in a grow pot. I also have several others of the varieties pictured in various sizes and styles.

Thanks,

John

I love serissas, especially the flowers. I am intrigued by their "fetid" odor while pruning roots and foliage. Have you ever grown them in the ground to thicken trunks?

Todd,

Yes I have, well not me, but my father, we do bonsai together. Only one of the varieties that we have really thickens up, the pink fairy, and by thicken I mean 3/4 inch, not very big for other trees, but big for a serissa. The other varieties won't thicken much at all.

Hi John, have you ever considered a fusion trunk with serrisa? Just curious. Rick

They are quite beautiful....Thanks for sharing.

I love the delicate flowers and leaves of the serissa.
I do hope you'll be able to post pics of the variety with the purple flowers, those must be spectacular.

Rick,

I have tried it in the past, but could not get them to fuse, after a year or more. The bark is very thin and so is the callus it makes, even with scarring up both trunks and securing them together resulted in nothing.
