Alpine forest in the tropics Empty Alpine forest in the tropics

Hi IBC.

I got several dozens of volcanic rock, Some got very nice natural textures and features suitable for penjing. Some will be turned into "pot".

I tried today to mixed and match this rock, and some young juniper. ( by the way I don't work on juniper) I love these junipers because of it's pine tree like outlines and I really wanted to have a "western forest (pine tree forest planting) but we don't have pine trees here, and these little trees will do the trick.
So this might solve my longing for western looking forest.hehehe.
For the western friends or European friends of mine, please tell me if I got the feeling of a "pine tree forest" right or not...

2 Cemented the base thinly to make the rock stand independently.

3 Finding the pot in my old stocks.

4. Some cheap juniper

Adding few more trees...and looking for the right design.

My little Alpine forest in the tropics

Might work on the details in the future.

I am planning to color the mountain tops and create snow caps and add more rocky mountains at the back...

BTW. this is a four man carry forest...So it might not be that little forest at all..hehehe Razz

Hi Jun,

I think your idea of a forest looks good and going in the right direction. Just one thought if I may - making a slope from the right up towards the stone would make one more dimension that i miss here - otherwise a very good idea. thumbs up

that virtual, yes ok, but Jun did mention he will work on the details... so offcourse this is not finished work, but work newly started. No need for cutting and chopping allready i suppose.

I am not a fan of landscapes and forest (my personal thing), If i personally want a forest i need the big thing for a big impression Very Happy.
Anyway, still, i like this one, mostly because of that beautiful rock that makes this a beautiful composition, very good feel about it.

I find it beautiful, a very life-like scene.

Makes me feel like taking the little path to see what's on the other side. Cool

Kudos on you, Jun thumbs up

Not sure about colouring the mountain top though: you might risk making it look like a kitsch Xmas scenery. Forgive my being a bit blunt, but I like it so much as it is, I fear it may lose of its appeal with fake snow Embarassed (There's a French saying : "Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien", sthg like "Better is the enemy of Good", or maybe "the devil is in the detail" Wink )

Bonjour Alain, we've met on another site, you may know me as Mikey ( we had a debate on the origins of European languages ). I like the piece and it's something I'm aiming to create myself, however I feel if the third tree on the right was moved to the bottom right hand corner, and the two other trees moved say 100mm to the right, also some more mountain to fill in the gap giving the illusion of depth to the scene, I think it'd look good.

A rather crude virt, apologies, but I though something along these lines.

To answer your question Jun, I think you've got a good start. I've gone rock climbing in areas that look just like this. It wasn't up in some area where the trees are getting crushed with snow and extremely harsh winter, so for what I've seen this makes sense. If your goal was more extreme, I'll leave that up for our Northern European friends to answer.

Again, thanks for posting.

abcde, and Gasper,

Thanks!
...and for the for the virt too! might do some mound rectification, making the mound closer to the "mountain" and closer to the viewer a bit higher.

Yves,

Thanks!
...try some forest yoyrself, There's a different kind of happiness doing a forest or penjing, slightly different from regular bonsai....It's like solving a 3D puzzle and more like playing.

Sabi,
Thanks for the virt and idea. I appreciate it a lot!

...I was thinking of giving a short gap between mountain tops, to create a perspective effect. other wise it would look a single cliff scenery, but your idea will also work on this concept. but it's gonna be a "near landscape" scenery, and the trees in this composition should be more detailed, and the young juniper wouldn't be the suitable trees for this concept. In the "far landscape" scenery mostly it is the outline of the trees and the perspective that is being focused on.

regards,
jun Smile

Alain,

Thanks!

Might do the "Christmas feel details" for the season only, I'll look for a more temporary materials for this concept.

regards,
jun Smile
