Went to the landscape nursery, and their truck came in with this stump. I couldn't leave it there. The base is 5 1/2 in, 12 in height. What are the chances of it living? It had good feeder roots left after it was dug up. Give any comments or suggestions please, take care!! -John

This is going to be a nice tree John... Just let it recover first, don't attempt anything on it yet. We'll design it later.

jun Smile

Yup.

Any idea why it was dug up? Did it have any foliage on it when you got it?

Do not overwater. With no leaves, it has no way to get rid of excess.

What a lucky find! Glad to see a nice one not ending up in the landfill. I agree with Jim and Jun, don't overwater and let it recover. Here on the coast many plants go into a summer dormancy after a strong spring push. Once that growth hardens it's actually the best time for us to dig and transplant camellias, believe it or not. I think your barberry has a good chance. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Hi, John...I was just wondering how this tree is doing these days? Sure looks good in this pot. Could you please post pix. if you can. Thanks! I have pruned one in place in our garden which I plan to lift next spring (2013). Can you provide growing tips as well? Many thanks.

Best regards,
Tom

No apology necessary, John...I should have opted to send you a private e-mail....many thanks for the reply and I am sorry that it did not survive....thanks for the good wishes....I will plan on lifting mine next spring....it is not nearly as significant as your find, but I will plan on posting if it survives....Thanks again.

Best regards,
Tom
