why did i start this!
Hi,
I think I had a moment of madness yesterday and started painting the bonsai bench area - after about half of one trelliss panel I looked up at the rest of the area and realised there were many hours of peacfull contemplation in the weeks ahead !
It looks great but leaves that little thought "why did I start this today" - but then in a moment of clarity I remembered an important lesson........Karate Kid - lesson 4 - Paint the fence!!
Anyone else begun one of those 'why did I start this' type of jobs?
cheers Marcus

I think we have all started those kind of job, but that one would have been easier if done pre assembly, or now with a spray gun.

There is your answer, get an apprentice!!! LOL If that does not suit you...go with what Billy said. A spray gun will get you done in no time...just protect/cover your trees.
I think we all had that moment.

That will really be nice when completed. Nice Job. What is the platform (framing) for in the foreground?

Three initial impressions.
1. that will look very nice with that color once its done.
2. Looking around the picture thinking "ooooh what's he got,.. whats he got"
3. My wacky avatar madness is contagious.

Why?
Hello,
Been there, done that. I've lost count of "Why did I start this?" projects related to Bonsai, but in the end all of them were worth it. My latest one was building a Greenhouse by myself, it was insane and trust me I will not build another soon (just not to say ever). I wish you luck but it looks really really good and in the end it will be worth it
p.s - don't forget in 2 to 3 years you will have to paint it again ahahah!
Cheers,

That's exactly why I usually put off starting these kinds of projects! It will look good, though. Hopefully you'll post some photos after it's painted and populated with those beautiful trees!David Carvalho wrote:Hello,

BTW...I have a barn in serious need of painting, if you have any free time when you're done!

Re: why did i start this!
hi y'all
I considered the spraygun approach but weighed up how much would be wasted spraying through all the holes, so general scrimping won through and i bought a new brush instead of a spraygun setup
Cheers Todd. The rafters in the foreground is the base for a raised decking area I've built over the last few weeks. I've ordered a product called 'ecodeck' for the top boards - a composite of hardwood fibre and recycled polymer that is delivered coloured, made to length, anti-slip and can be pressure washed.(We've ordered it in black and it means I wont have to paint the decking )
here is a view looking the other way;
Haha Jay Vader - yes I do that too - the trees are all over the place this week - garage, greenhouse, floor etc but I think just about every tree I've got is shown in my gallery now, bar a couple of dug up bits that need to choose life before I bother taking pictures. I think the finished colour will look really smart, especially matching the decking. I really like the black ash coloured background for the trees, the greens look so much greener.
Wacky avatar catching it is - I needed to restore the balance of good and evil as the force had swung to the dark side
I've just thawed out from doing another 3 trellis (both sides!) and the deck boards arrive wednesday morning too- weather permitting I want it done by sunday night as the trident is bud breaking now and needs a repot. I'll certainly get a picture or 2 up when the trees are all back in place - maybe even a video!!!!!!! woohooo
Cheers for the comments everyone, mmmmmm, painting a barn.............I'd have to get poinkk (dario) as an apprentice - he'll work for a tree me thinks
best regards from a cold Marcus with black speckles

Marcus,
You have done a great job! I can only hope that one day I have a bonsai area and trees that look this good. It was definitely worth the work. Thanks for the pics.

Looks really good, including the trees! That beech is quite a specimen.

Marcus-
That just looks like such a professional set-up now. What a great color to backdrop foliage. If the pot is the frame we plant the tree in could it be that the display bench is the wall upon which its hung? Excellent work my friend!

Very neat Marcus. Nicely done. The dark color will always provide a good contrast with the trees, no matter what the season is.
