and yet Another nana Juni question/help thread 8)
The nana below, would be something some of you would consider to buy and style into some decent Bonsai? This bad boy its about 3ft tall and 1.5 ~1.75" trunk dia. branches go in all directions.
I guess my main question is, what style can you make out of this guy? maybe a semi/full cascade with a sharp bend on the trunk?

I'm Debating whether buying it or not, I'm not too sure about what could be suitable for that's why I ask for your point of view about it.

ok, imo don't. think of this way, what are you going to get out of a 3' piece with a trunk diameter of less than 2"? the best someone can do, that I see, is a bunjin and you'd have to take off a ton of branches and that means either those scars heal where branches were removed or you're going to have a crapload of jins all over the place. any other style I think would be out of proportion, as far as trunk size to height ratio, and for what you would have to remove as far as material goes would be wasted $$ because you're paying for that...

Any idea what kind of trunk and nebari is buried inside all that foliage? Hard to offer an opinion without that information...

Hi Al, this is what you get when you grow a ground cover type Juniper up a stake. Along skinny trunk with practically no taper. I tried to make a tree from one and it looked absolutely ridiculous. From my experience, limited as it is, I'd say they are good for two possibilities, you could use them as a tanuki or plant as a raft. A cascade may be a way, but you will find all the branches facing the wrong way to begin with. they almost perfect for a tanuki application, that's what I'm planning for the one I bought several years ago at a fall clearance sale just to see what I could do with it, and that's the conclusion I've arrived at.

All of the above are very helpful opinions folks, I thought about the trunk size to height ratio at one moment but I also thought something could be done. Now that you guys make me realize it on a different way, I guess it would be a big waste of money if I get it. Better pass on this one this time.
Again thanks a lot for your input, you just save me some cash!

Why think in terms of one tree or one style. These air layer really easy and grow from cuttings pretty easy. I'm guessing there are at least several shohin trees in there if your willing to take the time and then maybe a bunjin as well. If the price is right I'd consider it.
