Takasagoan Bonsai collection Book of Daizo Iwasaki
I read the post about somebody looking for signed copies of john naka,s books and i went to see if both of mine were signed < 1 is and 1 is,nt > and found a book that i had almost forgotten . it,s the Takasagoan Bonsai Collection of Daizo Iwasaki . the book is a limited edition of 2000 copies of which mine is number 1635 , the book was never on sale and could only be obtained as a personal gift by Daizo Iwasaki , and mine was given to me by him as part of an award for one of my trees in a show in europe of which he was the judge . The book is of amazing quality with an inner and outer cover bound in japanese silk and has 273 pages of his collection of fantastic trees with text in english and japanese and still boxed . I am not sure how many copies are in europe but think it,s only about 20 of which 7 are in england , < again not sure > . It would be interesting to hear from anybody else who has this book . the only problem with is it,s so beautiful I never want to unrap it to actualy read it in case it gets dirty . regards john

John,
I have a copy of the book given to me by Mr. Iwasaki in his garden.
It's a beautiful volume featuring some amazing trees and certainly is a major testament to the late Mr. Iwasaki's love of bonsai.
When I was writing my book, he gave me permission to use images from his book, but alas the pages are so thick and made of a crinkled texture paper that it was tough to scan. I only ended up using one image (a Japanese Maple). The other photos I had taken myself.
We will miss his generosity to the bonsai world.

I have a copy (gifted by Mr. Iwasaki) received when several US National Bonsai Foundation board members visited Japan in 2000. My recently deceased friend Glenn Reusch received a copy when visiting Japan with the US National Bonsai & Penjing Museum curator Jack Sustic (~2004).
Daizo Iwasaki was a gentle, elegant soul. When the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum found several of its largest & most revered trees required replacement pots, Mr. Iwasaki found the best replacements and donated them. The NBF logo is designed from a tree Mr. Iwasaki donated to NBPM collection in celebration of the USA Bicentenial (1976).
