There is of course that rumour that he doesn't actually exist. Like Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy he is only a figment of imagination created to get people to believe in bonsai and to stir up debate about what form it should take. Popular legend has it that he flies around the world in a sleigh (specially created from rock as it's more naturalistic) and dispenses wisdom or criticism depending on the level of your belief in him.
I thought you were being tongue in cheek at first when I read the original post, but on reading your blog article it seems you were genuine. Engagingly sweet - a bit like diffidently admitting you don't know who The Beatles are.
Anyway, must dash - have some letters to write. Hmmm, now how shall I word this? I know:
Dear Walterpall,
I have been a good girl this year, so for Pallmass please may I have...

Well, I guess I still have a lot to learn being new to Bonsai & all. My better half is the artist but, he's not a fan of the computer so... all the things I post are new to me & maybe other newbies also. I believe also, from everything I've seen this country is still pretty new to Bonsai comparatively speaking.
So who are The Beatles

Very cute, everyone is a comedian
I had no idea he was so big in europe

Re: Art of Bonsai Photo Contest
Transcends even that. I think you will find him very close to you in early October at the Carolina Bonsai Expo in Asheville where, unless things have changed, he is the guest artist.treeoflifebonsai wrote: I had no idea he was so big in europe
Oh and he is a regular contributor to this forum which is why we are all taking the mickey somewhat.
btw - do you have a real name? Jim? Mary? Yggdrasil?

And Walter has previously been the guest artist at the NC Arboretum, as well as at numerous engagements throughout the known (and unknown) world. Sign up for a workshop if you can, they will sell out quickly. Workshop info is usually available in late summer.

Thanks for the info about the NC show, we went last year but, it's about four hours aways from us. Also, I had no idea he made guest appearances on the forum, I would love to know when he posts . This is one of the first forums I've joined & I appreciate how much fun you all seem to have!! I never knew about Bonsais until I met my other half & the personalities on this forum really make me want to learn & see more

Re: Art of Bonsai Photo Contest
Not so much "guest appearances" as just a regular contribution like the rest of us, albeit a bit further up the bonsai food chain from mortals like me.
But usually something that kindles a spark - one way or another.

I agree with Russell. And, sorry Walter, but from the female perspective I'd have to suggest that those ain't exactly sexy Calvin Kleins you're all sporting there, although I am rather taken by the David Beckham precursor setting a trend by wearing a sarong.
I'm almost tempted to ask what you were all up to in the picture. Almost. Ah go on, tell us please.
Fiona
ps did you get my letter outlining what I'd like for Pallmass

Well this has to be the best forum, so glad I joined
You all make it a true pleasure
Russell, I totally agree it looks exactly like an Abercrombie ad, even one that would be used today!
Thank you so much for the picture Walter Pall, you are the whole reason this topic started b/c of my ignorance. You are amazing, what can I say?
Oh yes & for all of you wondering my name is Jackie (Jacqueline), so please to meet you all.
