Suiseki exhibition at Tokio, Sep-2010
Hi all,
These photos were taken by my friend Carlos Lazaro in a suiseki exhibition at Tokyo, in some rooms of the Nippon Bonsai Association, in September 2010:
See suiseki photos
My friend was a big luck because he visited this exhibition with the bonsai master Mr. Kobayashi.
I hope you enjoy them.
Jose Manuel.

Hi Dave,
I apologize for that. I tried to post the pictures directly to IBC but I had problems.
I'll try to solve this posting the pictures in any free photo-web service. I do not know I cannot use the image upload option of IBC forum, maybe it is my navigator.
Best reagrds and many thanks for you warning.
Jose Manuel.

Re: Suiseki exhibition at Tokio, Sep-2010
Hi Jose Manuel... Thanks for sharing Carlos Lazaro's photos of a Tokyo suiseki exhibition and vending area on IBC. I wish we could get more details of whose stones are exhibited and the sponsor(s). The exhibit occurred in Tokyo on September 3-5, 2010. The Nippon Suiseki Sogoten exhibition sponsored by Nippon Suiseki Association recently ended in Tokyo (scheduled September 24-26, 2010).
Thanks to IBC Stone Forum members helping others view the stones. I was on a river, yesterday, and am delighted to see a Japanese exhibit. It appears that the famed daiza carver Suzuki-san is sitting next to his vending table in one photo. Mr. Kunio Kobayashi looks as dashing as ever-- I value his teaching. Mr. Kobayashi is well-known as a very active director in Nippon Suiseki Association, as well as vending stones, owning stones & maintaining stones for clients. In his own bonsai museum/studio Shunkya-en in greater Tokyo, Mr. Kobayashi has constructed an extraordinary facility for displaying bonsai or suiseki of limited number in a variety of alcoves.
Some of the exhibits, here, are well-staged. Others appear to not carry on the old yet vital customs of suiseki well. Suiseki is not an unchanging, formalized tradition but a living form of expression that connects to the past while engaging viewers in the present.

Re: Suiseki exhibition at Tokio, Sep-2010
Hi Chris,
Unfortunately I have no more information than the pictures of my friend Carlos.
I agree with you that some suiseki are exposed in a way that we expect to see in a traditional exhibition in Japan and other suiseki are exposed in a more modern and "less common" way, and I think this is precisely what is interesting and it shows, as you say, that is a living art in which there is room for evolution.
Surely some of the compositions in this exhibition have been widely criticized by misunderstood in my country.
It is a pleasure to share this art with the friends of the IBC.
Regards,
JMB
