Re: Show us your bench(s)
its a bit of both really, display and life long growing/working
i dont have many trees as yet but this will be the home for many years as i collect
what i have measured i should be able to work with each tree ok and yes will need to rotate as will be side facing the south sun but i will manual turn as i want to wire each through the decking just in case any strong wind... or my cats
i suppose if i really wanted to be displaying then the shelfs would need to be bigger as 14" still means the next shelf be behind the top of some of the trees. i will need to relook at the trees i have and decide next place for shelf
oh well, it will do for now. and top can be main display and i can rethink in a few years depending how collection grows.
pics to follow
thanks

I don't have a picture right now, but we find that cement blocks with pallets and boards work well.

Re: Show us your bench(s)
ok, i have been given this from a florist
my idea was for a wooden version but was becoming a bit of a mission trying to do.
so im going to try and add some decking shelfs to it
the shelfs are just a little too narrow for my liking so maybe i can add 2 pieces of decking to each shelf and try to over hang a little
i will see how i go and maybe try the wooden project in the future
any advise on how to proceed?

Re: Show us your bench(s)
The one pictured as 'large gap' is my bench that I constructed last year, and I don't think I would change anything about it now that it is one year on... As Fiona suggested, it is important to decide on the purpose of your bench... mine was simply for maintenance and to get the trees up off the ground... I plan to make more decorative stands or monkey pole-type displays when I get more finished with other landscaping in my yard, so I can work the display into an overall design. I think my display was potentially more work than it was worth, but the end product is a nice accomplishment... good luck with yours!

Re: Show us your bench(s)
yes, my challenge now is to try and make the shelfs wider when fit the wood so medium size trees fit without branches being pushed up against next shelf.
so some how fit and make hang over the edges etc
yours is perfect but i dont think im ready for such a project. i tried to get some assistance but got no where.
and limited knowledge and tools.
but still tempting to try similar

My wife helped me, and I am admitting this, she was more spatially capable than myself... it was roughly three full days of effort with most spent cutting, drilling and screwing all the individual pieces that made up the base of each shelf...

Re: Show us your bench(s)
I was looking at the rack you got from the florist and I would be wary of placing a great deal of weight on it... it would depend on the size of your trees and how dense you place them, but a brisk wind might be capable of placing pressure on a weak part of that metal... just a thought

Re: Show us your bench(s)
I'm no expert, but that appears very similar to something premade for staircases... which would be precut...

Re: Show us your bench(s)
i think im gonna have to draw and cut myself, but unsure how that would work out
else its go similar to you and build a frame etc

You can get PRE-cut stair risers at any do-it-yourself store like Lowes.

Re: Show us your bench(s)
doesn't seem that easy here
but I'm gonna try and go for the wood frame version depending on cost
back with info soon
