Prunus mahaleb 2005 - 2010
Hallo to all users
This is my first post here. I´m from Salzburg in Austria. Bonsai is my hobby about 20 years.
I will show you my prunus mahaleb. This tree was digged out 2003 in Italy and i bought him from a friend in germany 2005.
The tree 2005.
2009 i startet to shape the trunk to create better moving in the tree.
The feet of the troo was too heavy, so i shaped some holes in the trunk.
This is the tree at the moment. I think in a few years this will be a good tree with a nice charakter.
Prunus mahaleb, 60cm high, Pot: Peter Krebs
Komments are welcome.
Herbert

Hello Herbert, and welcome. Very good progression. I like the deadwood and the way you've dealt with the fat root on the right.

Hello Herbert and welcome to the forum. I hope you get lots of useful information and assistance from us.
I like what you have done with this tree already - and thanks for introducing me to a Prunus species I hadn't actually encountered before.
I'm sure you probably have thought about bringing the foliage on the left hand side in a little to give a more compact image. This is certainly what I would consider if it was my tree - sorry about the rough and ready virtual:
As always, it's only my opinion and based on seeing a two-dimesional picture. In any event, it will be much improved when the foliage pads thicken out a bit too.
Welcome again - hope the comments and compliments come rolling in on your tree. We look forward to seeing other exxamples of your work.

Hi Fiona,
the Prunus Mahaleb grows in southern europe. Italy, France and also in some areas in Germany.
Thank you for your virtual. Yes, i want reduce the foliage. After the hard shaping the tree last year i gave him time to grow and become strong an healthy for the next working steps on the foliage.
This year is hard for the trees in our aerea. It´s raining most of the time since april, and it is very cold, so that the trees don´t really grow.
Hope the weather is better in Great Britain.
ciao

Well Although no specific mention has been seen for this species, it belongs to a genusand different toxin found in many leaves.

Hi Pascal,
the prunus mahaleb ist growing very fine not as the prunus mume. So the foliage can be compact.
