Pottering with Pitt the Potter
A few months back several pictures were posted of the stunning "Beyond the Moonshadow" exhibit at Joy of Bonsai created by John Pitt. I made a comment at the time that many of us know John as a bonsai potter, but few realise just what a talented artist he is as well.
Today I had the priviledge of seeing just how much that is true when I visited his garden near Derby. I had arranged to call in to pick up a tree of mine that John was babysitting while he measured it up for a new pot, and what a splendid excuse that was to be very nosey round his fabulous trees. What was even more evident was that this is someone who does things -pots or trees - because he genuinely loves doing them and gets a buzz from it. It's nice (and reassuring) to see people doing things because they enjoy it rather than for ego or money.
A brilliant visit. here is but a taster of it:

A few more
Beyond the Moonshadow "resting" in the garden
SIlver Birch started from a seedling some 40 years ago by John's Dad who, John says, takes a lot of the credit for kindling his passion for bonsai.
So there you are. Great trees, and a nice guy. I'm going to stop now in case he thinks I'm touting to become his PR manager.

Thanks Fiona for posting some tree/pot combination from someone who is not "Ego Driven" It is refreshing and a joy to be around people like that. I am sure the majority of bonsai folks are like that. The egomaniacs make it Always about themselves(start all their sentences with "I", easily offended, hold resentments, never were popular) Would like to meet many of you folks one day. Thanks again. John is well known by now all over Europe as outstanding potter. Many have not realized though that he also is an outstanding bonsaiist. It is not the norm that one commands both art forms equally well.

Wonderful bonsai and Pots John...and very nicely displayed.
Thank you Fiona for posting...
By the way Fiona...your thread title "...Pottering with Pitt the Potter...", reminds me of "...Mrs. Potts Who Didn't Have a Pitt to Hiss in...".
Pat…mounted on my trusty stead, riding off wildly in all directions…

I'm sorry Fiona, obviously didn't make myself clear, purely voluntary post.(It's in the small print)
Thanks everyone, pleased you enjoyed the trees.

Fiona,
We are blessed in the bonsai world to have potters like John Pitt. He is a great artist. It would be great to see more of him here on the IBC.
Thanks,
Rob

I have been to John's a few times now, each visit an absolute joy. I have always found him to be generous, welcoming, down to earth and thankfully free of ego or BS.
My most recent visit was only last month, where we had a morning together ordering 3 pots for next years repotting season. Another good reason for going is to have a look round at his lovely trees, he does make it look easy.
Be in touch soon John about collecting my Scottie

Rob and Will,
I never seem to have enough time for posting much,
Have to admit I prefer playing with clay and trees to sitting in front of a keyboard,
must try harder, as my school report used to say.
Thanks G,
Scottie is doing very well , you are welcome anytime to check on progress,
