too late in season to re-pot
I totally forgot to re-pot these trees this last winter (now they're in leaf). I was wondering if its too late in the year to re-pot. I live in Massachusetts. I've read that others like Walter Pall re-pot maples throughout the year. Thank you.

I have repotted younger maples in full leaf, but you have to be very careful.

I would wait until next year unless there is no water flow into the root ball, but the canopy looks very good so I doubt that is a problem. If that is the case there are some emergency repot methods that can be used. It is better to pass up one year of tree improvement than to set the tree back a few years or permanently by doing something out of season.

It's safer with some red still in the leaves. How does it drain? What's the potting media? Looks a bit soggy.

The potting media is strictly turface. The top is only moss, and not rimmed. That's why it looks soggy. Not a very good photo.
