Yes you can, but not in that small pot, or not in any reasonable time. You will do better in a wide, shallow grow box or better yet the ground.

Yes I have one potential place in garden if I dig up some lawn
the only spot I have anywhere so a maybe for now
i do also have a large box
but im unsure on this tree as yet and its potential

And neither is it -- which is why you should plant it in the ground. It is still a baby.

maybe in a very large bonsai pot at side of garden. ground is not really suitable.
and better to just let grow well for a couple of years or start some sort of shaping etc?
i will have to read up more. i see need to pinch back to back bud better etc etc

I think with this size, as mentioned before, it's not worth trying to shape it. Unless you want a mame sized tree. Pinching will only slow the swelling process of your trunk, which is what you need. Stick it into the ground or a bigger pot with modern substrate and fertilize a lot let it grown unchecked and then hack back hard around mid May or mid July. Then let it grow and do it again mid August or so. It will only thicken up if you let it grow. If you pinch there will be photosynthetic material to contribute to the plant gaining energy and thus growing.
