Transformation in bonsai
This is one of the most historical bonsai in Indonesia which is still alive....
This Casuarina belonged to Mr. Ismail Saleh, founder of ASPAC and patron of Indonesian bonsai. The below picture was how it looked like when first displayed in the 1st. ASPAC in 1979 in Bali and got the prized from Saburo Kato.
After few years, its trunk started to rot..dying..and out of care for many years before I found it at the corner of Mr. Saleh's garden about 6 years ago; then I offered to take care of it before he agreed to give it to me.

Robert,
A very elegant mother and child.
Good to see, that it didn't just end up dead.
Stay well.

Re: Transformation in bonsai
I think this is what bonsai is about. Our bonsai climbs with us then declines much later with age, then climbs again as with this tree and its new owner, well done robert.
can i have it next?

Re: Transformation in bonsai
Hi Robert, Excellent transformation. I really like the small pads. However I'd like to know from your experience, how long would this finished design hold its shape. It is evident from the pic just before the finished pic that Casuarina grows pretty. So how long before the finished trees outgrows its perfect shape??

Re: Transformation in bonsai
Ravi, I guess you mean the foliage balls. You need to pinch the needles from time to time to maintain the shape and they will get shorter.
